The Igihango National Order of Outstanding Friendship
The Medal Igihango was awarded to Linda Melvern on November 18, 2017 and presented by His Excellency Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda.
The citation reads:
Linda Melvern: Archaeologist of truth
Before encountering the neglected story of the international community’s role in the Genocide against the Tutsi, she was already recognised as a relentless investigative reporter.
Her commitment to the truth has produced some of the most meticulously researched accounts of the Genocide on record.
Despite personal cost, her vigilance against genocide denial is undiminished. By demonstrating that our national tragedy has lessons for humanity as a whole, her work gives solace and dignity to survivors.
On behalf of a grateful nation, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Rwanda hereby bestows the Order of Outstanding Friendship, Igihango, on Professor Linda Melvern.
